There is a wealth of material 'out there' in regards to spirit guides. The important thing to remember is that none of it is objective. I recall listening to a CD by a well-known highly regarded expert a few years ago. She said that we only ever have one spirit guide. This is simply not true. She may only have one spirit guide, but that doesn't mean that you or I only have one spirit guide. No one has exactly the same spiritual experiences as another. We are all unique, and whilst there are some generalities, seek to look outside of the expected.

As I have progressed on my own journey, I have travelled with numerous guides. Some of them have been with me for a very short time, and some for a considerable amount of time. Five years ago my quest for knowledge quadrupled, and it was necessary for me to work with several guides in order for me to be able to process the material and experiences that were happening.

Many people say that they don't know who their guide is and they wish that they did. Well that's ok, and the thing to do is to just trust that he or she is with you. Ask for a name and whatever comes into your head, decide on it. Spirit Guides do not care what you call them as long as you acknowledge that they exist.

I used to question that everyone and his mother seemed to have a Native American Indian guide. It seemed ridiculously fantastical that so many indians were guiding us. I do not doubt this now, as having read hundreds of books and studied the Native American Indian in depth, I can see that they are a race that is uparalled in wisdom.

It is not that the Indians have more intellectual knowledge than us. It is that they know how to live. They understand the beauty and power of silence, and how much we can observe without words. They understand the true meaning of freedom and honour, and do not pay lip service to unnecessary values.

Last year I felt an incredible urge to start drawing. Within a few weeks I had created some very credible drawings, one of which is my own spirit guide. The connection to him is astonishing, and he now takes pride of place in the house. He stays close, but often takes a back step just to see how I am doing, and what choices I will make next.

Spirit guides are not with you to tell you what to do. So if that is what you are expecting, you may feel rather disappointed. Their job is to guide a little, maybe help when you are on the right path, and issue a warning when you are not. Although occassionally we need the lessons of the wrong road, in order for us to gain a sense of duality.

The main thing is to stay patient in your quest to find your guide. Just assume that he or she is there. Talk to them as you would a close friend and confidant. Ask for signs but remain open to the fact that some of these signs may be rather vague and shadowed. Every now and again the signs will be ubiquitous, and you may not see them for they will surround you like a fog.

Do not allow others to tell you how it will be. Search for yourself and listen to your own answers. The truth of your own heart will inspire and lead you to the right people, including your own guide[s]
